Don't buy, Very hard to install. June 28, 2010 Charlie Murphy (AZ, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The game's default resolution was not set to fit on a wide screen so after booting my screen would turn off. After searching the internet for an hour I found out that if you hold down the ctrl or alt button (i forgot which one) while booting a menu will appear allowing you to choose your screen resolution or put the game in window mode. Why wasn't this included in the manual? As a customer I shouldn't have to search for answers on the internet.
After I was able to get the game to start it ran so slow that it wasnt playable. My mac's specs are way over the game requirments. I'm sure there is a fix somewhere on the internet for this as well but I've had enough. I'll just go back to playing civ4 for mac (which I highly recommend!) Civilization 4: Gold Edition
Simply a problem February 7, 2010 Jason A. Carson (Taizhong, Taiwan) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I played it once and it was great, but it didn't want to minimize so i could work on other things. I had to quit and save to work on other things. When i went to play again the next day it kept saying i have to re-launch. After four days of that, i gave up and chucked it. I must say though that the delivery was amazingly fast (four days) for delivering to Taiwan. No problem with the seller, just the product.
Unusable on Modern Macs January 6, 2010 Pasha Supreme 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
SimCity has been a staple around the Mac gaming scene for years, but it looks like there is no playable SC for Modern Macs.
This game will not function properly on Intel Macs, its not stable under Leopard/Snow Leopard. The last update to the application was in 2007. So you are not getting anything new.
There are a lot of reviews claiming that this works fine on PowerPC, but Apple has not sold any PPC Macs in four years. PowerPC technology has been phased out by Apple and all legacy software along with it.
It's such a shame that this game has been neglected to this point. Aspyr needs to pull this product from sale, its dishonest to sell a product with zero support.
If you want to play the game and are using any Intel Mac you can always purchase SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition for Windows and run it under Parallels Desktop 5.0 for Mac, VMware Fusion 3, CrossOver Games - Mac, or Boot Camp using your Windows version of choice.
Best of Luck in building your Cities, and I do hope we get a stable, fast native SimCity on the Mac again.
Great Game December 10, 2009 Alex P. Plochocki This is a great game for thinkers, strategists and excellent if you have some down-time.
The Intel processor, not the OS version is the problem! October 13, 2009 Theodore Keer (New York, NY United States) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Several reviews state that the game does not work with OS 10.4 or 10.5, but this is misleading. The game will work perfectly well if you use the PowerPC processor. I have OS 10.4 and the PowerPC G4 processor and have not had a single glitch or slowdown. The problem some users have is caused by their having an Intel processor instead of the PowerPC processor.
This game is a classic, hours of constructive fun, a great alternative to first person shooters, unconditionally recommended. So don't miss out on this version. If you don't have the intel processor you won't have any problems.
