5 out of 5 stars Good times   August 31, 2010

I read the reviews of others telling their tale of taking apart the plastic rims or cutting the silencers to fit inside . . . Completely unnecessary. Need instructions? Take a pad out of plastic, remove paper backing, apply to drum and press firmly. Repeat three times, then crack open a beer, admire your work, and rock it out.

5 out of 5 stars 1/4 of the noise & 100% accuracy!!!   August 29, 2010

These drum silencers really do work if you take the time to install them correctly and to fix your drums if needed. I can actually hear the music while I'm drumming now.

Other people have very detailed instructions on how to remove the drum head from the drum set so I'm not going to repeat that. I will offer my suggestions though.

First check your local electronics retailers, I found these for half the price listed here.

If you want to do this right the first time, you should remove each drum head and then remove the plastic rings around each drum head. There are videos online showing how to do this. Removing the plastic rings will help maintain accuracy on your drums because these silencers don't fit inside the rings.

If your original drum pads have air bubbles in them make sure you peel the pads off carefully and re-glue them down before installing the silencers. I used gorilla glue. Just make sure you read the directions on the glue bottle.

Apply the glue to the drum and to the bottom of the pad you just peeled off and let the glue sit for 5 - 10 minutes BEFORE pressing the pad back onto the drum. Don't put too much glue, this stuff expands like crazy and will create ripples on the drum pad if you don't give it time to expand first. I made 4 or 5 circles with the glue and added some dots randomly to get even coverage.

Even if there was a small air bubble in the original drum pad I would suggest re-gluing it. If you don't that drum will be much louder than the others even after you install the silencer.

You should also install the drum head back into the drums at this point. It just snaps into place. This will allow you to apply more pressure so the drum pad is securely glued into place. Since the plastic rings have been removed you can use the drumstick as a rolling-pin over each drum head to help smooth the drum pads out. Don't get glue on the drumstick or your clothes or your hands.

Clean the tops of the original drum pads because the silencers are held on by basically an adhesive tape. You can now stick on the drum silencers.

Now for the hardest part... Don't play your drums for 12 - 24 hours. You really do need to let the glue dry. The longer you wait the better chance you will have for success.

Good luck

4 out of 5 stars Pads are Pads   August 17, 2010

Sure they were a bit less nosier but... I had to practically smack the hell out of my pads to get the damn game to read it.

1 out of 5 stars They don't work   August 16, 2010
The Grumpy Hacker (Milwaukee - Top 5000 Reviewer!)
They don't work at all--they don't make the drums any quieter. Don't waste your money or your time trying to install them.

5 out of 5 stars Great product with non traditional install   August 14, 2010

This product works great if you install it not as the manufacturer intended. I have the Rockband I drums - removed the plastic ring around each pad and installed these directly on the pads - works great.
